What’s My
Story?
My dream was
to be the best, to conquer the world, to lift the claret jug high above my head. Golf waits for no man,
unquestionable dedication and the will to win alone is often not enough to be your best. I learned too late that
success revolves around mastering what works for you the way that Mother Nature intended. Constantly locking
yourself in a fight with swing mechanics jumping from one magic move to the next is a painful lesson, learned
the hard way. The clock is constantly ticking; if you’re not good enough fast enough in this world then the
truth of the matter is; time is money and money is time. My passion was spun and thrown into another direction.
I discovered that to nurture and support a dream is a dream come true, life without a dream is a life never
lived!
As a highly
driven individual I push my limits extremely hard to improve myself. As a result I have had the pleasure of
learning my trade with some very talented individuals who are held in the highest regard in the world of golf.
If I’m honest, you might be surprised to learn that this is not all about you. This is my personal quest to
discover how I got lost and where I went wrong. I am here to prove a point and prevent the same thing from
happening to another strong ambition with bright eyes and a firm hold on a distant dream.
Experience
has taught me how easy it is to waste a lot of time and energy, amongst other things, on improving your golf.
This game is a mine field and I am here to set the record straight, to challenge techniques thought to be key
and fundamental by many. To play great golf you don’t have to be the talent of the century or have the eye of
the Tiger but, as with anything in life, you shouldn’t do anything until you know what you are doing. Hanging
from the tree tops all night long will not make your arms significantly longer, you are who you are, don’t fight
it, you should never try to be someone you are not. Through intense practice I was (and still am) more than
familiar with the ever new hot tips and tricks to line the book shelves, only to discover that the majority were
a total scam for the so called “expert”, who was just as confused as me, to hide behind.
As a kid I
would stand up to the ball, have a quick look at my target and nail it, without a care in the world. It’s only
now that I understand what happened to the boy who played the game of golf from instinctive feeling; he got lost
and totally disorientated, as many do in the world of over analysis, swing mechanics, angles and rotations. The
game of golf was no longer a game but rather a mathematical equation that didn’t seem to add up as I constantly
tied myself up in knots that a black belt would be proud of. My talent and instinct were ripped from my grasp. I
was so wrapped up in technical details that I began to question which end of the golf club I should grip. This
is a lifeboat that I am sending out to you, better to save one man than to save none at all.
Before I go any further I am not going to apologise for my sometimes hard-hitting attitude.
My wife (who is nearly always right) tells me that at times I sound too abrupt without firstly considering your
feelings and without taking the feelings of others into consideration. I have always been hard on myself and
believe that to improve yourself you have to have a combination of being hard and honest, to really get the best
from yourself.
If you can’t
laugh at yourself or you are easily offended then my wife is really sorry. If you really want to improve I want
you to open yourself up to some new ideas that will change the way you play golf forever. I don’t see the point
in beating about the bush. You are here to learn how to play golf the way your body was made to, not to be taken
on a magical mystery tour. Please get ready for some home truths that I wish I was introduced to the first time
I held a golf club in my hands. And for the record, my wife is not always right!
I am going to
guide you and teach you how to simply build your own Signature Swing naturally, from the ground up. Throughout
the process you will learn how to develop your own instinct and feeling for the movements that were made to fit
your body like a glove, propelling your golf as far as you are willing to take it. You will learn the secrets
that the golfing greats have known for generations and how the ball is ultimately your best teacher.
I have left
the best till last; you can do all of this on your own. Yes that’s right, without a little “wizard” constantly
firing running commentary over your shoulder. It gives me great pleasure to fight my corner, wiping the eyes of
the guys looking through the rose-tinted glasses pushing and pulling your swing around like the school bully.
Let’s get in there and get the job done!
As is often
the case, the instructions detailed throughout these series of online golf lessons refer to right-handed
golfers, so for left-handed players please use a mirror image version. I have tried not to continually refer to
you in the masculine form, so as not to offend any of you ladies out there, but I must confess that this has not
always been possible. However my advice is phrased, it is aimed at all golfers without
exception.
